  • How To Have A Good Meltdown

In this video, I discuss how to handle a meltdown, take in your strengths, and take the opportunity of a meltdown to see how you can change your life for the better.

  • There Is No Place Like Home

white-houseIn an essay in the Wall Street Journal yesterday, Joe Queenan focuses on the human foibles of the people we consider heroes. This past month Alex Rodriguez and Michael Phelps had transgressions that surprised us. One of the things that Joe Queenan says so poignantly is that ” these men may have done a great public service….and if you want to send a message to your kids, send it yourself. Don’t expect celebrities to be role models. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123456728548886075.html

Amen! That is a perfect statement! Kids learn best by example and the people who should serve as the best role models should be the parents or guardians of the children. Many people can serve as inspirational role models outside the home. This is necessary because many homes are broken. The children need hope to see that it is possible to rise above your circumstances. However, a parents biggest responsibility is to rise themselves above their own limitations and naturally be a great mirror for the children they bore.

Somestimes as adults we become cynical and tired of the negativity that is out there in the world. But in the end there is no place like home. Home is where the true heart is.  And from here is where the next generation can experience and see a better world because they themselves will create it, hopefully.

  • Just Believe

I like this video because it makes me think of the kids growing up today who are our future generation. It makes me think of what is on their mind as they see all this economic uncertainty going on in the world.  Believing  in yourself is the only certainty that can be sustained.

  • Good Memories May Boost the Umph to Get Going

rose-ocean-handsMy sister emailed me yesterday wanting me to send her some pictures of a day we went on a road trip to  West Palm Beach in October, 2007. It was during that time that we worked together and started the vision for Resurrect Your Hero. We left at sunrise and I took some pictures along the way.  Maybe she wanted to see all the pictures as a recall of a good memory to make her get going.

In the afternoon on the way back, we had lunch Merrick Park, a very nice outdoor mall in Coral Gables. It was pouring rain and got drenched. It seems so long ago, but now looking back, that day brings me some great memories. So I created a mini video of the pictures for her.  I haven’t asked her yet why she wanted to see them, but instead of emailing them, I will post it here for her eyes to SEE.

  • What Is the Real Fuel to Take You to The Next Level?

fire-on-log-ignitedOn the cover of today’s Miami Herald and Wall Street Journal is the admission of Alex Rodriguez use of steroids from 2001-2003. The admission came when a Sports Illustrated reporter told him he had tested positive back then. The information came out from a report that federal agents confiscated from a California laboratory. Alex says that at the time he “felt he needed a push to get him to the next level….and wanted to prove to everyone that I was worth being on the of the greatest players of all time.

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/baseball/story/896116.html. And now the owner of Texas Rangers, Tom Hicks, who made him the highest paid player feels betrayed and deceived. It is understandable, because he was being paid based on the perceived value. He hit 156 home runs in those years. Now that perceived value is  diminished. He obviously chose the wrong push to make him appear greater. Could it have been possible that if he believed in himself more, enough to take him to “the next level”, that it could have fueled him to accomplish those feats without the drugs? It is possible?   What do you think?

  • Is the Child Within You Screaming to Get Out of Its Numbness?

This video on you tube has over 5 million hits because it is hilarious. I felt bad for the poor kid, but I truly laughed my head off. It made me think how as adults, we have become numb to the childlike part of ourselves. Clearly in this video, the boy was distressed of the foreign condition he was in and in an attempt to get out of it, he screamed at the top of his lungs. “Is this real life?” he also says.

I was having a discussion with my brother, Luis, yesterday about being under the influence of drugs, specifically marijuana. In the 1980’s he experimented with different drugs, much to my horror. Because of that I was always terrified of drugs. I  tried pot on only 3 occasions in my entire life and I hated the feeling. I had wide range of effects from falling asleep to having vertigo for three days and thinking I had permanent neurological damage. For that reason, I will never ever touch pot again. About any other kind of drug, knock on wood, I was terrified of them. I can’t imagine how my body would react. Good thing I was obsessed with exercise.  (more…)
