The Power of Focused Prayer

I am going to the hospital tomorrow for reconstructive surgery on my ankle. I have traumatic arthritis and diminished cartilage due to a car accident 5 1/2 years ago. The procedure is going to be two fold, first all the metal, about a dozen pins and two plates, are going to be removed and am going to have a  “halo” attached, also called Ilizarov and drilled into the bone in 12 places from my foot to my shin. It will be giving space to my joint and basically will look like I am a human shiskobob. I will have this attached 24/7 to my ankle for 6 weeks. I haven’t had too much time to think about the actual procedure because the way it occured for me to have this surgery was what some have described as magical or even a miracle. Last year, had several opinions from highly reputable local orthopedists to have an ankle fusion, ankle replacement or cartilage implant. I was told this was not commonly done here in Miami. I put it aside, knowing that with antiinflammatory pills I could get away with not getting it done right away.

By April, I was having severe pain that I could barely walk. While attempting to gather the information I was given last year and simultaneous mind freak since my health insurance did not cover it, I was having a mini meltdown. So my dear sister decided to dedicate May 5th, 2008, “Official Blanquita day”. She sent emails to all my friends, family, cousins in Colombia and many people forwarded to others. The intent was on that day that everyone pray that I find a solution by the end of June and to have the surgery within one year. At least 200 people received this email, and I received tons of messages, phone calls from people I care about sending me positive thoughts.

The next morning, a podiatrist randomly showed up at my sister in laws office, where she works at South Miami hospital to tell her goodbye because he was leaving to New Jersey to practice there the end of June. She mentioned my case to him and 2 days later I was at his office. Surpisingly, without me asking, he offered to do the surgery probono, and because of his generosity, I was able to qualify for assistance at the hospital at 100% coverage.

I am still in awe of the way so many doors opened. I know in my heart that the power of prayer and the strong intent from the heart manifesting this amazing gift for me. I am humbled beyond words and look forward to a life free from pain. I am  on my way.  Tomorrow is June 5th, exactly 1 month after my “official Blanquita day”.
