Matheson Hammock Beach 2nd Day of Vacation

matheson-hammockSince I am in this timeless mode, I woke up pretty late and had a slow start. I was reading in the paper that it was going to get chilly the next day. It was about 93 degrees and beautiful sunshine, so I figured I better go or else I might miss the opportunity. The problem was that I was already around 1:00PM and I had to get my son at the bus stop at 3:00PM. This would not have given me much time to relax at the beach. Here I was stressing and about to text my son to walk home.

But instead I decided to wait, pick him up at school and take him back home. Good thing I did because he was very sore from working out and wasn’t feeling too good. By then it was past 3:00PM and I decided to go to Matheson Hammock which is in Coral Gables about 10 minutes away. It is a small beach that looks like a circular pool.  It is closed in by Coral Rock and the salt water comes in from Biscayne Bay.  Since it is shallow, it is a beach that many parents take small kids and babies. My parents took me here when I was a child. I lived very close to here . Too bad I don’t go so often because it is very lovely. I am going to make it a point that I come here to write and read this year.

Here you see the mangroves and the view of downtown Miami to the north and many beautiful waterfront homes and Key Biscayne to the east. There is also a Marina here with many boats docked.

On my way home I went to see my old neighborhood, where I lived with my parents from 1970-1991. It brought back alot of memories some good and some painful. When you see things with new eyes , going back in time with wisdom  gained is very healing. The painful memories I have are mainly from my brother’s crazy days in the 1980’s when he did drugs. Watching the children play at the beach brought joy to my heart. I wonder sometimes how someone like my brother ended up vearing in such a painful course for a time.  We all do in a different story, hopefully not as drastic. But we all can heal and be innocent like the children, because that part of us still exists.

After seeing my old home which has been completely renovated by new owners, I went to another neighborhood with waterfront homes. I love to see these amazing houses, but one in particular because it has the most beautiful statue in front. I snapped a picture and as I turned around across the way was the most spectacular sunset.
