  • What Is the Real Fuel to Take You to The Next Level?

fire-on-log-ignitedOn the cover of today’s Miami Herald and Wall Street Journal is the admission of Alex Rodriguez use of steroids from 2001-2003. The admission came when a Sports Illustrated reporter told him he had tested positive back then. The information came out from a report that federal agents confiscated from a California laboratory. Alex says that at the time he “felt he needed a push to get him to the next level….and wanted to prove to everyone that I was worth being on the of the greatest players of all time.

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/baseball/story/896116.html. And now the owner of Texas Rangers, Tom Hicks, who made him the highest paid player feels betrayed and deceived. It is understandable, because he was being paid based on the perceived value. He hit 156 home runs in those years. Now that perceived value is  diminished. He obviously chose the wrong push to make him appear greater. Could it have been possible that if he believed in himself more, enough to take him to “the next level”, that it could have fueled him to accomplish those feats without the drugs? It is possible?   What do you think?

  • Is the Child Within You Screaming to Get Out of Its Numbness?

This video on you tube has over 5 million hits because it is hilarious. I felt bad for the poor kid, but I truly laughed my head off. It made me think how as adults, we have become numb to the childlike part of ourselves. Clearly in this video, the boy was distressed of the foreign condition he was in and in an attempt to get out of it, he screamed at the top of his lungs. “Is this real life?” he also says.

I was having a discussion with my brother, Luis, yesterday about being under the influence of drugs, specifically marijuana. In the 1980’s he experimented with different drugs, much to my horror. Because of that I was always terrified of drugs. I  tried pot on only 3 occasions in my entire life and I hated the feeling. I had wide range of effects from falling asleep to having vertigo for three days and thinking I had permanent neurological damage. For that reason, I will never ever touch pot again. About any other kind of drug, knock on wood, I was terrified of them. I can’t imagine how my body would react. Good thing I was obsessed with exercise.  (more…)

The creation of  life is a gift. We have to be able to SEE that any situation no matter how bad and symbolically may feel  is the end of the world and the end of your “current” life as you know it, is just that, a symbol.  They have to be seen  as an end of something so that a new opportunity can emerge. Job loss, divorce, health challenges are all tests to allow us to grow and emerge better and greater. (more…)

  • Change Now, Don’t Just Give Me Your List of Why’s

If You Want to Make a Change Detour To A New Place
If You Want to Make a Change Detour To A New Place

Because my sister finally came out of hiding and openly posted her frustration of her energy level last week, I can comment on my take on it. When we are not following our passion, we tend to go into addictions. They come in many forms: overeating, drug abuse, alcoholism, over spending, cigarettes, gambling, toxic relationships etc…

The fact that anyone has an addiction does not take away their talent. It simply is not being tapped and utilized, left lying in some corner collecting dust. For Maria, her weight has become toxic and causes her to be sleepy and even depressed.  Her talents lie hidden because she is not taking care of her body.

My addictions in the past were toxic relationships, needing a man to fulfill me and then being constantly disappointed.  Cigarette smoking creeps up on me a couple of times a year only because I used to be a social smoker over 7 years ago.(4 a day). So if I go out for a drink with friends who are also smoking, I may be tempted. Except now, my body can barely tolerate 1 cigarette. I immediately feel the toxins spread through my veins and wonder: “Why did I do that?’ (more…)

  • Inauguration of President Obama

I know the Country is in a mess.  But I do have hope and I fully support his courage to become President at this time.

  • Save the Union, but Save Yourself First

united-states-flagLeonard Pitts, from the Miami Herald wrote an article about the myth that Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. He says  the Emancipation Proclamation was a military measure to destabilize the rebellious south and did not apply in slave holding states.  http://www.miamiherald.com/living/columnists/leonard-pitts/story/857544.html

However, he does point to the fact that Lincoln abhorred slavery and believed in the humanity of blacks. Lincoln’s primary goal was to save the Union. And so, the Union of the United States remains.

But what kind of Union? We are witnessing today in the inauguration of the 44th President. The main theme is hope and confidence. We can be down in the gutter, but hope is the light at the end of the tunnel. I do hope for a greater Union. President Obama has been clear that it will take work and sacrifice. He is asking for all to do their part.

The United States is in virtual bankruptcy.  I have awakened in my own personal life , the value of myself without a penny. I lost a big source of my usual income in the last year as a realtor in Miami. But in the process right now of rebuilding, I haven’t lost my dignity, self-respect or self-value. (more…)
