Can You Be Strong Like Hercules?

Be Strong!
Be Strong!

I sent a direct message to a friend on Twitter about a job. When I told her about my real estate business being slow, she replied that if I am still hanging on to this business, then I am probably “Herculean.”  When I think of Hercules, an image of a very strong man comes to mind. Yes, I have been strong and sometimes wonder how many more tests can I overcome. This last one of Sparky passing on nearly broke my heart.

What has allowed me to remain strong this week was something the vet replied when I asked him a question. I said, “How come I didn’t see it coming?” Meaning, the cancer. He died only a couple of days after I found out. The vet replied that he was a very strong dog. I used to run with Sparky when he was a puppy. It was unbelievable to me how fast he ran. He ran like a horse and for a Labrador was pretty big. He weighed about 110 pounds. This whole week, I have remembered what the vet said and in Sparky’s memory, I have managed to remain strong even though I am still in pain.

My efforts to tap into the REO business have been tremendous. I do believe I am close to getting the listings. But on the other hand, I could flop and not get “in”. I have made some good connections to getting my foot in the door. I hope all my efforts will pay off.

I just got back from the Realtor Association from a whole day seminar about short sales. The instructor used to be a loss mitigator. Loss mitigators are the ones that approve the short sale.  Short sales are when a homeowner owes more than what it is worth. The bank has to approve a short sale and take a loss to get the property sold. In today’s market, the majority of sales are either REO(bank owned) or short sales. The problem for short sales is that it takes a long time to get approved. The loss mitigators are swamped.

For many right now in this industry, unraveling how to get in the business on the realtor side and unraveling how to process the avalanche  from the Banks side is a huge task. Many who have wanted to tap into the REO market have been in a prepare process. That is what I  have done. Now that I am positioned, I can focus on other deals like short sales. I am tired  though, from all that effort without visible results. I know that other seasoned realtors are also waiting for the business. There has been a pause in the last six months because of the moratorium.

My saving grace is when I quietly sit at night and continue my writing and this blog.(and exercise!) My creative side kicks in and get into a zone which takes away the stress from this crazy business. Just now as I finish writing this post, my mind already is more at ease. I don’t understand how this happens especially since I sat for 8 hours at a course at the Realtor Association.  But it brings me peace. And I continue every day…day by day…getting stronger. I’ll do it in memory of my Sparky.
