  • Memorial Day, Remembering Our Heroes

    Memorial Day
    Memorial Day

Yesterday, I wrote the title of my blog Mango Connections Falling on My Doorstep. My routine in the morning this past week is getting up to see how many mangoes have fallen on my lawn. Cristian asked me why I gave all the good ones away. I had saved about 10 cracked ones for myself. I told him that there were plenty more on the tree and lots of fruit on the cracked and bruised ones.

As I opened the door a few minutes ago, there was a big semi broken & bruised mango right on my doorstep this time.  It just made me think, how many families are wishing today,Memorial Day, that their loved ones  who are away at war, arrive at their doorstep no matter how bruised and broken they may be. And most importantly, and the reason why today is a somber day of remembrance, what about the families that have no hope of this because they have already lost a member of their family? (more…)

  • A Hero in My Eyes

I just saw the episode on Oprah of this woman who had to have her arms and legs amputated after an infection took over her body. Her attitude moved me to tears when I saw that what kept her together was her focus on her family.  She had just given birth to a daughter and wanted to go home after rehabiliation and  give her newborn daughter the attention she needed.

These kind of stories make you pause and value what is really real and important in life.  What a real hero she is. It is beyond words.

  • A Pilots Quick Thinking

august-to-october-2008-621The pilot in the incident on the Hudson River in New York  yesterday is quoted in the Miami Herald that a catastrophe was averted by his “quick thinking and deft manuevers”.  Quick thinking like this can only be achieved by an alert and clear mind.  http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation/AP/story/856361.html. The passengers marvel they are alive. Just reading the story myself  wells up in me the amazing feeling that yes, they are all alive. Why is that so? Why does it take a near death to jolt you into that clear minded awareness of the power of our life, our aliveness.

We live in a world of constant distractions and worries especially now with the state of the economic affairs. These instances give us a pause to remind us that our life is not to be taken for granted. We each have a purpose, no matter how small. Maybe the chaos that is happening in the world economically is simply a shift for us to pause for us to restructure and reshape our lives with more meaning. (more…)

  • Time for a Pause

zebra-cterpillars-on-vine-april-17-08-first-time-seeing-024I created this site with a lot of love and nurturing with my sister, Maria. We are collaborating as a team and are in the process of creating some great programs.  We both are working in our individual “day” jobs, have kids and many obligations. To not cause stress to each other and our families, we are allowing this site to flow organically and in harmony.

We spent one year conceptualizing, visioning and dreaming. In our fast paced world, “time” is an issue. For this reason, we are taking a short break of a month to further nurture our dreams. (more…)

  • Something is Stirring in America

flag-eagle-carI have never been much of a politically involved individual as I have found myself to be this past week. As the Olympics came to an end, and as we finished watching the performances of Americas heroes such as Michael Phelps and Shannon Johnson and  many others, I was on a high. Throughout the Olympics, I was glued to the television set each night as I watched these athletes perform and reach to accomplish the dreams that they have had, many as young children. I was in awe by the idea of how all these athletes  have had their heroes journey, many overcoming many obstacles to get to that point and never giving up because that is what it takes.

Then the  Olympics gave way to the Democratic National Convention and again I found myself glued to the TV each night.  I listened to the story of Barack Obama, an unlikely candidate and a Black American  running for the office of President of the  United States. I listened to his speech last night and could not help but feel my passion reignited once again to dream and hope for a better tommorrow. Yes I know that this is what candidates are supposed to do, but something happened to me as I heard him say.    ” Something across America is stirring.” All I could hear myself saying at that moment was, my God I hope so. He spoke of the American Dream of what we are all hoping for:  a better life for our families and the next generation to come.

I felt myself getting excited and feeling that energy run through my veins. Wake up America!!!!!  We all need to resurrect our Hopes Dreams and Desires. I could feel myself saying and feeling this as I heard his words and felt them all throughout my being. We have all become way too complacent to reaching for the stars  and reaching for those hopes dreams and desires of which heroes are made of.

We are living in a world of uncertainty, facing issues of economic recession, global warming and continued political unrest in the Middle East. If anything, what Barack Obama did last night in his speech is reignite those dreams that we can as a nation, as a community and that I can as an individual have those dreams of a better tommorrow.

Someone said to me that America was not ready for a Black president. Well for one, he is of biracial parents so he is of both races.  I thought what a perfect metaphor, what a perfect way to be that bridge. When we can look past the color of our skin and focus on each other as individuals, then we are on our way to healing ourselves, our relationships and this nation. We will really be on our way to Resurrecting the Heroes that we are. We will be on our way to acomplishing all our hope dreams and desires. Yes I do believe it is possible. All it takes is that one spark.

And to quote a less than politically influential character, buzz light year: ” To infinity and beyond!”
