  • Orange Butterfly Sitting Still

orange butterflyI was so excited to finally get a close up picture of this beautiful orange butterfly. It is one of the butterflies that come from an orange and black caterpillar on my passion vine.  They flitter about so quickly zipping all over the place and high up in the air that by the time I get my camera, they are out and about somewhere else. What is so beautiful about these butterflies is that one the underside, they have these white specs, and when their wing span is open, you mainly see the black specs.

I love that we are in Spring because I see so many butterflies coming out again. My computer is a few feet away from the door that leads out to the yard and luckily I have some big windows where every now and then I can dash out and snap a picture.

  • Passion Flowers On A Passion Vine

This beautiful purple flower is blooming all over my passion vine right now. It is a host for zebra caterpillars and another orange caterpillar which I don’t remember the name( not monarchs).
A friend of mine on Facebook, Anya Nadal (http://www.anyanadal.com)is an artist and she absolutely loved a picture that I posted. so I told her that I would take more pictures so she can create a painting. Hence this is why I am creating this set.
I took over a 100 pictures this past week to capture the essence. Some are repetitive, but I wanted to make sure the artist got enough details. Hope you enjoy.
The pictures with the red flowers are fire bush which is a separate plant that is nectar for bees and butterflies. The passion vine is a host where the butterflies lay their eggs for the caterpillars to grow to prepare to become a chryssalis and then emerge as a  beautiful butterfly.
