  • Save the Union, but Save Yourself First

united-states-flagLeonard Pitts, from the Miami Herald wrote an article about the myth that Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves. He says  the Emancipation Proclamation was a military measure to destabilize the rebellious south and did not apply in slave holding states.  http://www.miamiherald.com/living/columnists/leonard-pitts/story/857544.html

However, he does point to the fact that Lincoln abhorred slavery and believed in the humanity of blacks. Lincoln’s primary goal was to save the Union. And so, the Union of the United States remains.

But what kind of Union? We are witnessing today in the inauguration of the 44th President. The main theme is hope and confidence. We can be down in the gutter, but hope is the light at the end of the tunnel. I do hope for a greater Union. President Obama has been clear that it will take work and sacrifice. He is asking for all to do their part.

The United States is in virtual bankruptcy.  I have awakened in my own personal life , the value of myself without a penny. I lost a big source of my usual income in the last year as a realtor in Miami. But in the process right now of rebuilding, I haven’t lost my dignity, self-respect or self-value. (more…)

  • Can You Leave it Alone?

sparky-muzzle-wound-nov-08That is what I have been, in frustration, yelling to Sparky( my 100 pound Labrador), every time he licks his wound.  He got angry when the groomers shaved him for the first time. It was my sister’s suggestion to avoid shedding so much hair.  Instead, all I have done is shed grief for 4 months and his wound doesn’t get better. It hasn’t gotten infected because I have given him antibiotics, gone to 2 veterinarians, applied sprays that the vet gave me, and holistic creams, muzzles, collar, special “bite not collar I bought of the internet, etc….  He is a mighty stubborn dog . I have also gone through countless gauze, bandages  and tape which has pulled off.  (more…)

  • Obama, Our Hero, a Courageous Leader or Both?

obama-superman1I went out with my son tonight for a Coldstone ice cream desert on Miracle Mile  in Coral Gables and happened to see this painting for sale in the window sill. With the inauguration of President elect Obama less than a week away, I thought that this depiction of Obama as Superman was symbolic.

Superman is the hero, the man of steel, the one to save you in peril and despair. Well, alot of us are living financial peril and despair and we are looking for this new leader to save us.   The way I look at it is that this man has the courage and vision to take us to a better place. But he can’t do it alone. Hopefully he is intelligent enough to pick the right team in every arena and delegate efficiently the most pressing matters.

I as a realtor in Miami and living this  reality of financial peril as my income has dropped dramatically in these last two years, I have had to totally restructure the way I work.  I did vote for Obama. I want change. Even if you didn’t vote for him, the reality is that he is going to be our President and leader for the next four years. (more…)

  • Happy New Year….Letting Go of the Year of Personal Meltdowns

august-to-october-2008-275Wow! What an amazing year it has been. I had about four meltdowns, financial, health, love and possibly letting go of my home. I have learned with each experience, that the next one is easier.  All this restructuring in the middle of the madhouse of this financial meltdown in the world has made me feel like this cartoon that came out in the Miami Herald today: http://www.miamiherald.com/opinion/jim-morin/image_media/831682.html.

I look forward to 2009 with a fresh outlook. I see the statistics that the economy is going to be worse. But with all these meltdowns behind my belt, I know I can now withstand any storm. The key is to stay in trust, focus, faith and surrender to something greater. Sounds simple. It is not easy, but it is the best way. Cheers to a better year for everyone!

  • The Seeds are Sprouting from the Pods

seeds-in-podIt has been about two months since I was actively engaged in this blog. So many things have happened in this time. I created this blog with my sister and was waiting for her to “get going.” In the meantime, I did a 21 day video process and shared my process about my financial meltdown there. I was giving my sister, Maria, time to digest an accelerated process that I probably took six years to integrate.

So I stopped bugging her to “get going.” In this video, I talk about sharing clips from last year with Maria when together we created our dream to work together. I also talk about how we value ourselves. Right now she is busy with her day job and responsibilities of family. Only time will tell if the seeds that were planted last year will come to sprout for us to work together.

  • Bailout for a Company Spiraling to its Death

The talks this week of the bailout for the auto industries has brought much opposing sides. On the one hand, if they are not bailed out, many people will be losing their jobs. If they file bankruptcy protection, they may emerge  out of this stronger than steel. It’s tough either way.

Sometimes the “death” of something is really giving life to something else in a symbolic way. Death symbolically is letting go of something that is not working anymore. It is like the snake shedding its dry old skin. I myself, last year experienced the abyss like alot of people, But beyond the abyss there is new pasture, a new grounding place.  The oppportunities are there. While we are moving from here to there, it may feel like we are falling into an abyss, which some people may call it death. But really, the best way to ride that abyss is by being held in the arms of God, angels, guides, friends, family or anyone special in your life to help you get to the new destination. (more…)
