  • Adjusting To My New Identity

The last few posts  have been titled: Letting Go Of My New Identity, Embracing My New Identity and now this one, Adjusting To My New Identity. But in reality, it’s not that I have a new identity. I have always been me, Blanca Stella Mejia.

Because I have worked  mainly in one profession, it was excrutiatingly hard to let it go. My profession was more than just being a realtor. I owned my own business,  operated as the broker, and ran all the marketing, sales and administration. There were times that I had agents and assistants in  my office as well. Besides that, I handled projects that most Realtors don’t do.(See my resume for more details.)  That is what comes with the territory of being an entrepreneur.  (more…)

  • Social Media & Embracing A New Identity

In the last month of my shift in my new work, I have been attending different local networking events geared to technology. I have found them through my local twitter connections. One was a pizzatweetup created by @lapp.  Over 70 people attended to enjoy the face to face company of our online connections. There was no specific talk. It was simply to connect. That is  really what the whole Social Media is about.

In the last weeks, I called a couple of my newfound techie twitter friends as I was trying to embrace my new job description. I am hired to do a job that really is not clearly defined. That is what was said in another meeting I went to this week.  No one is a real Social Media Expert because it is so new. It was at the Association for Women in Communiciations.(AWCS). (more…)

  • My Brother’s Project Has Meaning

In the past few weeks, I have embraced my new work with excitement. I have been mainly focused on the projects that my brother wants me to organize. He is  a very talented Dermatological & Hair Transplant surgeon.  His practice is thriving and has a good staff in place to support all the services he offers.

There are not that many Doctors who do both hair transplant and dermatology.  He was in need of someone to set up all the dermatology services he offers on a website since his current website  is only focused on hair transplants. He does Follicular Hair Transplantation. It is the same procedure  that  Dr. Robert Burnstein does, and who was featured on Oprah a few months ago. It uses ones own natural hair. Basically, if someone has had bad plugs, he can fix this. (more…)

  • Suspended and Safe in Mid Air

I saw this article today titled: Sears Tower Unveils 103rd Floor Glass Balconies. It is a good visual for what I have been going through this year. If I had a visual of last year during my financial meltdown and dismantling of my real estate career, I would post a picture of the bottom of the ocean.

Because of this blog, I simultaneously have maintained a higher vision where I wanted to be in my life while I maneuvered the crazy world related to my real estate work. Unfortunately, while I desperately hung on to dear life to create real estate deals, I almost sunk myself in the deep ocean of positioning myself as an REO realtor.

After all, in my mind, it was the real estate deals that would pay my bills while I continued pursuing my dreams that I imagined kind of like the girl sitting on this glass balcony. Here is a quote from the article:

It’s very scary, but at the same time it’s very cool,” said Chanti Lawrence of Atlanta, adding that she’s made her first step toward overcoming her fear of heights. (more…)

  • Celebrating The New Identity

    Follow Your Passion

Last night after I came back from a networking meeting, I tweeted about following your passion. A friend on twitter, @mlanger (Maria Langer) replied that I have been listening to The Secret for too long and just go for it.

I personally thought “The Secret” was kind of shallow. Yes, it got people’s mind flowing with creating vision boards and so on. I have done all  that. But it didn’t incorporate alot of the action – GO FOR IT! that my twitter friend, Maria said. I have always been a  good doer left brain trained type of person. I would have preferred to have had my sister, Maria(not same as twitter friend) partner with me as we had envisioned. But she didn’t go for it. So my plans got revised. And they got put on hold because of my need to create immediate income to pay my bills.

My birthday is coming up this week. Birthdays are celebrated to remind you of that point in time when you took that leap into this world to embrace life. I celebrated a pre-birthday moment yesterday when I went to a meeting  with the Association for Women in Communications(AWCS). It was the first time I met anyone from this group. The topic was about social media, so there were a lot of local twitterers there, including men. (more…)
