Who Am I?

Busines CardsOne of my best friend that I mentioned in this post said to me last month that she was worried about my twittering.  She was afraid that it was becoming an obsesssion. She obviously doesn’t “get” twitter and now she is asking me how to twitter. My first tweet was in December after I moved my real estate office to my brother’s location to save on expenses. I was 100% focused on getting bank listings at the time. I have been mainly working from my home.

My home is a quiet space. I rarely turn on the TV. To take breaks during the day, I go out to my butterfly garden or put on some music and start exercising on my stationary bicycle and Pilate’s or simply go to the gym.  Because of Twitter and my fascination with technology, I connected with new and interesting people. I am following a lot of people that probably will never follow me and I really don’t care. I only look at my new followers about 1 x per week.

What my friend perceived as an obsession was actually the avenue that ended up saving me from my frustration of looking for real estate business. I was able to expand my world view on various topics through twitter. In my worst times, I continued to chug along inspired by many tweets that kept me going. I felt a bond to many people that I never have met.  Subsequently, I started going to local tweetups.

As a mortgage broker, my friend started working in a new field, life insurance. She has dedicated most of her time this year to learning this new business. Granted, she has a young five year old daughter. So in the evenings, she has little time to invest in Social Media. Now Social Media has become a craze.

I didn’t get involved in Twitter because of the craze. I was simply curious and now it has become a big part of my life. So much so, that I created a separate account for the local people I have met.  It is very different to interact with “friends” when you have actually met eye to eye. Yet, I have had great connections with people that I hope to meet  one day.  I really enjoy knowing about their lives and who they are as human beings.

Ultimately, that is what Social Media is about: human interaction. So now, when I go to these tweetups and people ask for my card, I tell them to follow me on twitter. I haven’t had time to create a business card. Now that I am getting settled with my brother’s project, I have been thinking of what to put on my new business card. Who Am I? What Am I about? I have attempted to be real in this blog and share my real story of maintaining my sanity during the chaos.  My message stays the same: Inspiration through Transformation.

Transformation cannot happen without being real and human.  So, I thank my Twitter friends for being part of my transformation. Was it an obsession? Who knows? At least this so called obsession opened doors that I never imagined. I’m still thinking about my business card. I should call it my human card.

Oh and by the way, my friend went with me to the Social Media Club of South Florida meeting last night. I forwarded her an email that the organizer was seeking a projector for the meeting. He was going to announce the name of whoever brought a projector at the meeting as a sponsor. I knew she had one. She jumped on the chance and on her first Social Media meeting ever, she got sponsorship credits.  I think her perception has now changed.
